Fieldstone, Ledgestone, & Ashlar Stone Veneer Panels Inspired by Nature

Best Stoneworks offers three stonecutting styles, each available in several color patterns. Ashlar pattern stone veneer refers to a building stone that has been squared off into a block. Fieldstone retains a more natural shape, although we trim the stones slightly, so they are easier to install. Ledgestone’s beauty comes from its traditional linear look.

Our stone veneer panels are all hand-colored, and available in tints ranging from blues and grays to browns and buffs, often with touches of iron.

Some of our veneers duplicate the color, texture and veins of mica that are found in the stone that is indigenous to the Greater Philadelphia Area. Examples are our many varieties of Wissahickon Schist, which are based on our Media Ashlar and Brandywine Black.

At Best Stoneworks we take pride in creating veneers that look and feel like nature’s own.

A stone veneer panel is a decorative type of stone that's manufactured to present an appealing, yet natural look. One of the most popular stone styles is ashlar stone veneer, popular for its broad range of available applications and lower cost of installation compared to its counterparts.

There are many types of style stones, but the four that we offer here at Best Stoneworks are ashlar, fieldstone, fieldstone-ledgestone, and ledgestone, with many colored varieties for each. The style of stone can greatly influence the look and the implied age of the house:

  • Ashlar is a symbol of elegance with 90 degree corners.
  • Fieldstone provides an informal appearance.
  • Fieldstone-Ledgestone is so irregular in size and shape that it almost looks as though it was taken from fields as they were cleared to plant crops.
  • Ledgestone, or stacked stone shapes, are a recent import from other parts of the United States and give a home a newer look and feel.
Yes, all of our stone veneers are available in either of the four shapes that we carry: Ashlar, Fieldston, Fieldstone-Ledgestone, and Ledgestone.
When comparing ledgestone stone veneer to other types of stone, there are a few key differences to consider:
  • Ledgestone stone veneer has a unique, natural-looking appearance that adds character and warmth to any space.
  • It has a rough, uneven texture creating added depth and interest to a surface. Ledgestone Stone Veneer is typically thicker than other types of stone, which makes it more durable and long-lasting.
  • Ledgestone stone veneer is lighter in weight than traditional stone options, which can make it easier to transport and install.
  • Ledgestone stone veneer is typically less expensive than traditional stone options, which can save on material and labor costs.
  • Overall, ledgestone stone veneer offers a unique combination of texture, durability, and affordability making it a popular choice for a wide range of home design and construction projects.
Ashlar, or cut-stone, is manufactured where the corners come to 90 degrees. Ashlar stone veneer panels are a symbol of elegance. It wasn’t until the 1830-40’s that builders could afford to import masons from Italy who knew how to cut stone with straight lines. Ashlar pattern stone veneer is easy to install and utilizes a repeating pattern so you don't have to worry about uneven edges or difficult installation.

There are many pros to choosing stone veneer panels for your next residential or commercial project.

  • Our stone veneer panels are trimmable. Too often the 'real stone' is thin because, by code, it has to weigh less than 15 Lb per square foot. Because it is so thin, it is very difficult to trim. A real stone wall - that is a self-supporting wall - would have the appearance that the weight of the stone above is being carried by the stone below. Thin stone is so challenging to trim that it is difficult to acheive this 'real stone-wall' look. Often, on the wall the stone appears to 'float'.
